AI Gives Mediocre Artists Something to Use

As I see it, being an artist has two parts: Finding a subject, and creating it.  Artists always have ideas for an image; only some of them can restrain themselves from creating self- indulgent images that have little esthetic value.  A lot of the time, poor artists—poor in talent, not finances—were held back only by the limitations of their skill.  But now, using AI, they can indulge their obsessions, painting the same unworthy subject repeatedly, until they get it just perfectly repulsive, the way they want it.

In a sense, this is a sort of rite of passage; an image that tortures them from inside their heads, is brought to life on their computer or tablet,

Another issue with the DA website (DeviantArt) is that I'm constantly conflating the subjects of the artwork—usually a girl—with its creator, often a guy.  So, in the comments I might say something like, I think you're beautiful (especially if the uploaders' remarks say something like, 'I don't like my hair', or something negative.  Some artists are actually girls, and they get someone to take pictures of them.  But other photographers often pretend to be women submitting selfies, just to make them more interesting.)  So I'm tricked into making consoling remarks.  And I'll never know whether the photographers is laughing, or whether the model-photographer thinks that at least one viewer appreciates them.

Now, though, as AI comes into the picture, things are more confused many times over.  To make matters worse, some of of the submitters—possibly non-native-English speakers—call their artwork AI photographs.  What is it: AI, or a photograph?  It can't be both!  They're nice images, but they're now a cross between a photo and fantasy art.

Added later: I learned what is meant by AI photographs.  Apparently phone cameras—and any software-controlled cameras—are beginning to use AI software.  It learns what the user wants, and tries to supply that.

I notice that many portraits of women are showing more cleavage.  Is the software learning about cleavage?  It's possible; if the user keeps increasing the amount of cleavage he captures, the software (being no dummy) assumes that it better get more cleavage in.
